# Uninstallers and disk space for Mac

> Remove apps cleanly and find out what is filling your disk.

From dockpicks (https://dockpicks.com/), a hand-picked, independent directory of Mac apps. Web page: https://dockpicks.com/cleanup/

Group: System. 4 apps, listed best first. Prices are the vendor's wording, checked October 2026, and can change.

Built into macOS: Finder (drag to Trash) and Storage settings. You can uninstall most apps by dragging them to the Trash, though Apple notes this can leave login items, extensions and other data behind, so use an app's own uninstaller when it has one. System Settings > General > Storage offers recommendations like storing files in iCloud and emptying the Trash automatically, and macOS clears safe-to-delete caches and logs itself when space runs low. That means all-in-one "cleaner" apps are usually unnecessary; a free leftover-file remover and a disk space visualizer cover what most people actually need.

## 1. AppCleaner

Drag an app in, delete it along with its leftover files

- Price: Free (donations accepted)
- Pricing model: Free. No payment needed for the full app.
- Usable without paying: Yes
- Open source: No
- Developer: FreeMacSoft
- Website: https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
- Facts checked: 2026-10-24

When you drop an app onto its window, it finds the app's related support files and deletes them together with the app.

Our take: Small, free and does one job well. It fills the gap Apple itself describes when you drag an app to the Trash.

## 2. DaisyDisk

Visual map of what is using your disk space

- Price: $9.99 one-time
- Pricing model: Paid. A one-time purchase. A free trial may exist.
- Usable without paying: No

Scans your disks and shows usage as an interactive ring chart so you can drill into large folders and delete what you no longer need. It can also scan connected and cloud storage.

Our take: The nicest way to answer "where did my space go?" and a one-time purchase. Free GrandPerspective does the same job with a plainer interface.

## 3. GrandPerspective

Free, open-source treemap of your disk usage

- Price: Free; $2.99 on the Mac App Store
- Pricing model: Free. No payment needed for the full app.
- Usable without paying: Yes
- Open source: Yes, GPL-2.0 (https://sourceforge.net/p/grandperspectiv/)
- Developer: Erwin Bonsma
- Website: https://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/
- Mac App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/grandperspective/id1111570163
- Facts checked: 2026-10-24
- On dockpicks: https://dockpicks.com/cleanup/#grandperspective

Draws your disk as a treemap where each file is a rectangle sized by how much space it uses, making large files and folders easy to spot.

Our take: Free and actively maintained, ideal for an occasional cleanup. The treemap view takes a minute to get used to.

## 4. CleanMyMac

All-in-one cleanup, malware scan and maintenance suite

- Price: From $3.33/month; $39.99/year on App Store
- Pricing model: Subscription. A recurring payment for real use.
- Usable without paying: No
- Open source: No
- Developer: MacPaw Way Ltd.
- Website: https://macpaw.com/cleanmymac
- Mac App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cleanmymac/id1339170533
- Built-in may be enough: Finder (drag to Trash) and Storage settings already covers what most people use this for
- Facts checked: 2026-10-24
- On dockpicks: https://dockpicks.com/cleanup/#cleanmymac

Combines junk and cache cleanup, malware scanning, app uninstalling with leftovers, large and duplicate file finders, cloud storage cleanup and background process management.

Our take: The best-known Mac cleaner, polished and easy to use, but most of what it does macOS already handles or free tools cover. Worth considering only if you want one guided app for everything and do not mind a subscription.
